Personnel Advancement - FF Trent Kriha to Aide Status

 BVFD Team -

The BVFD proudly announces the advancement of Firefighter Trent Kriha who has now earned Officer in Charge (OIC) status on our Ambulance.

Congratulations to Firefighter Kriha who joined the BVFD in April when he became a Live-In Member from Huntington Beach, California. FF Kriha arrived with his National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification which he earned while going through his college fire academy. He also had an introduction to fire fighting, having been a fire explorer for the local county fire department as well as the classroom portion of the two state fire academy.

In just the six months Trent has been with Burtonsville, he has successfully completed over a dozen training programs, including:

- Maryland Emergency Medical Technician Refresher Course
- Firefighter I Training Class
- Firefighter II Training Class
- Hazardous Materials - First Responder Operations
- Protective Envelope & Foam
- NIMS IS100 Incident Command System
- NIMS IS200 Federal Disaster Worker
- NIMS IS700 National Incident Management System
- EEO/AA and the Law
- Cultural Diversity
- Blood Borne Pathogens
- Radio Operations
- MDC Operations
- eMEDS Patient Care Reporting
- Firehouse Statistical Reporting

Even after all of the formal training, there were many steps to be completed before taking command of a BVFD Ambulance. FF Kriha had to successfully complete a series of comprehensive written and practical in-station examinations. After completing all tests,  FF Kriha rode “Charge” under the evaluation of an experienced Charge EMT for a series of evaluation calls. This process is designed to allow the EMT to demonstrate knowledge and ability in the field, before being permitted to be in charge of an Ambulance and crew in any situation.

The BVFD congratulates FF Kriha for completing this rigorous process and earning Charge status.

Thanks for all you do each week to keep us growing and better serving our community.

Tami
