EMS Advancement - EMT Jamie Calderon to Driver Status

BVFD Team -

Congratulations to EMT Jamie Calderon, our most recent Emergency Medical Technician to earn Emergency Driver Status on our Ambulance and Medic Unit.

EMT Calderon joined the BVFD in December of 2016 and has been taking training classes non-stop to earn her status as EMT in Charge and now Driver. Most recently, Jamie completed the County's comprehensive Emergency Vehicle Operators Course at the Training Academy.

EMT Calderon worked through the BVFD cognitive and practical examinations (on our EMS vehicles, emergency laws, area streets, and hospital running routes). The final training phase requires a candidate to demonstrate proficiency driving on numerous emergency calls under the evaluation of a trained/experienced Ambulance Driver.  EMT Brooks drove on a wide variety of emergency calls, including hospital transports to meet the final requirements and earn Emergency Driver status this evening.

Thanks for all you do each week to keep us growing and better serving our community.

Tami

EMS Advancement - EMT Toni-Ann Wiggan to Aide Status

BVFD Team -

Congratulations to EMT Toni-Ann Wiggan, our latest Emergency Medical Technician to earn Charge Status on Ambulance A715.

EMT Wiggan joined the BVFD in  2017 and has completed all of the required classes to reach this status, including:

- Maryland Emergency Medical Technician Course

- Hazardous Materials - First Responder Operations

- Protective Envelope & Foam

- NIMS IS100 Incident Command System

- NIMS IS700 National Incident Management System

- EEO/AA and the Law

- Cultural Diversity

- Blood Borne Pathogens

- Radio Operations

- MOSH Training

- MDC Operations

- eMEDS Patient Care Reporting

- Firehouse Statistical Reporting

EMT Wiggans then worked through the BVFD cognitive and practical examinations. The final training phase requires a candidate to demonstrate proficiency riding Aide under the evaluation of a trained/experienced Charge EMT.  EMT Wiggan is to be commended on the investment of time and energy that now allows her to serve the Community as a Charge EMT!

During morning checkout on RS715 the Cutter's Edge threw at least one carbide tip through a glass pane on bay door #4. BC701 notified, he told SA700, SA700 came out to do an investigation. I'm pretty sure at some point the Zebra team was put on standby. The glass pane needs to be replaced. It would be really great if the bay door could be rendered operational in the process. Facilities and Small Tools notified.
