Concrete contractors came out to take core samples and measurements in approximately 8 places on the front ramp (marked in orange). They only needed a garden hose and for us to be out of the way. We ran all of the apparatus out of the back of the station. I didn't get a chance to talk with them before they left about their progress but I imagine they will be doing the same thing Friday 3/26 in the rear of the station.

During a cursory check of the knox keys at 13605 Robey, we discovered that not only do they not have keys to either the Fire Control Room or Elevator Machine Room but the keys in the front box did not match the keys in the rear knox box. I spoke with an assistant manager, an Alpha Peterson 301-847-1000/301-860-2353, who is addressing our concerns. I politely requested that we be provided with a consolidated matching set of keys that access the necessary areas.

All-

E715B was picked up from CMF today. It's being utilized for the funeral detail on Friday.

Per CMF, it cannot be utilized for operations. It failed it's DOT, so they did the work required to have it safely on the road, but they don't want it in service until the rest is completed.

We'll be returning it to CMF over the weekend.

Took B715 to Cape May to fuel up. I noticed that with the fuel ring attached properly, the fuel nozzle is not long enough and gas spits back out and you can only get minimal gas in before the nozzle cuts off as if the tank is full.
The quick fix........
When fueling up at Cape May, the fuel ring must be taken off. Since this has to be done, you WILL need the fuel the key out of the office. When fueling, the nozzle must be inverted upside down otherwise the fuel will continue to spit back out. B715 took 25 gallons of fuel.
The fuel tank for the actual pump was also topped off.

Painful Loss to the BVFD Family

To My BVFD Brothers and Sisters:

A beloved friend, BVFD Life Member, and distinguished Fireman has died, leaving so very many of us heartbroken and grieving.

Firefighter Timothy M. Fuentes died on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.  We have consciously held off on sharing this painful news, to support Barb, Jared and Hayley as they work to process such an inconceivable loss.  Tim's BVFD family is working with Tim's family on how best to pay tribute and honor this remarkable and beloved man.

Tim joined our fire department family on September 6, 1994.  He was, by all accounts, a genuine Fireman who loved riding and driving our Rescue Squad.  His love for serving others, his dedication to learning, and his robust spirit drew Members to him.  He held the rare and coveted rank of "Technician" based upon his proven skillset.  In 2009, Tim achieved Life Membership, having responded to thousands of emergency calls from our community. Unrelenting chronic injuries kept Tim off of fire apparatus at that point, but did not keep him from supporting his Department.  Those who had the privilege of riding with him, learning from him, working the carnivals with him, or simply sharing life with him know just how much the world dimmed on Tuesday.

Tim was the "real deal" as a fireman and as a family man.  His love for the fire service was undeniable, but it paled in comparison to his unconditional love of his family and extended family.

Many of us had the pleasure of watching Jared and Hayley grow up during Tim's service with the BVFD.  He loved his beautiful wife Barbara and never missed a chance to share stories of family achievements, events, and shenanigans.  Tim was an exceptional storyteller, which made him an excellent trainer as well.  So many new Members got to learn from Tim's investment in training and sharing his experiences.

I can offer no magical words to soften this blow.  But, I can tell you these things... Tim stood with us as we said "goodbye" to far too many friends over the years.  He suffered too many personal losses and we tried to always stand by him.  Through it all, he held us close, he hugged us tight, he flashed that beautiful Tim smile.  He exemplified what it meant to be a fireman and a friend.  He raised a beautiful family.  We are so much better, for having shared the past 25+ years with Tim.

Now, we will stand by Tim's family and honor his legacy of service.   Arrangements are being finalized for Friday, March 19, 2021 at Donaldson's Funeral Home in Clarksville.  A full Fire Department Memorial Service will be conducted.  All appropriate COVID precautions will be followed.  I will share more details on the services, which will accommodate up to 50 people at a time.  We will continue to monitor family needs and stand ready to assist in any way possible.  We will support one another, in all the ways Tim taught us to be present and caring.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to me, or Chaplain Christine (HP) Dunn, as needed.  We will be draping the Fire House this evening, with black bunting, and taking other customary steps to show our respect.

A life of serving others that will be remembered by all who served with him.

- Ordered 8 new 1" Ratchet straps for the Rescue Squad via Small Tools. Instead of having multiple different types with cam buckles we will have all of the same kind that will be the "ratchet" style.
- Placed "cheat sheet" in each RS compartment that contains Hydraulic Rescue Tools. This sheet gives you the Spreading distance and Strength of the spreaders and the cutting width and strength of the cutters. They are in order from strongest to weakest. The highlighted ones are the ones found in that compartment.
- Rescue Squad is broke. After conducting training the Rescue Squad would not "Unkneel". Unfortunately we did not realize this fast enough and we did knock off the rear winch Electric connection for the portable winch. Its currently ratchet strapped up right now. Tried everything to get it to "unkneel". No success. We are picking up a reserve and the RS will be placed in one of the back bays. I will save a switch over list to the desktop and email it to the masters on all shifts.

Just a heads-up - Two weeks in a row I've come in and valves #2 and 3 on the SCBA compressor were forcibly turned all the way on (counter-clockwise), and were very difficult to turn off.
The first time was on 2/26 (C-shift, although B-shift had a fire on 2/25), today is 3/7 (B-shift).
I spoke to the B shift engine driver who was filling bottles before mem and he told me that they were that way when he tried to fill the bottles - he had checked them, and assumed that they were stuck in the off position, and didn't want to force them.
